You can’t avoid menopause but you CAN get through it without losing your sanity!

Menopause is a normal condition that all women experience typically between the ages of 45-55. And while it may feel like it can be quite a roller coaster ride at times, there are some things you can do to help alleviate your symptoms.

Menopause is when a woman has gone a full, consecutive 12 months without having a period. It is caused/ brought on by a drop in estrogen levels and other hormonal changes that are going on in the body. This dips and drops in hormone levels are not a “consistently progressive decline” in that this is a very LINEAR process.

Common signs and symptoms of menopause include hot flashes, night sweats, insomnia, mood swings and a drop in libido. You can have several other symptoms but these are very common among most women. The good news with menopause is that, even though symptoms can last 4-5 years, the severity and frequency of symptoms CAN and tend to decrease during this time.

AND . . . there are thing that YOU can DO to have a better menopause experience and manage your symptoms. Get regular exercise! Exercise will not eliminate your symptoms but it will help improve your energy and will support a healthier metabolism.

Stay hydrated! Drink plenty of water to avoid feeling bloated which can sometimes accompany the hormonal changes you are experiencing. Don’t skip meals! Skipping meals will slow your metabolism and may exacerbate your symptoms.

Make sure you are getting your RDA of calcium to maintain healthy bones. Load up on FRESH fruits and veggies! Monitor you consumption of alcohol and caffeine. Many women report that cutting back on both of these helped to reduce their hot flashes and night sweats.

Again, NONE OF THESE will ELIMINATE menopause or your symptoms, however by making the BEST lifestyle choices during this transition you can have more GOOD DAYS than bad ones!
